Principal's Corner

Dear Livingston Avenue School Families,

With the colder weather lingering and snow sticking around, we will need to continue holding recess indoors for the time being. Our goal is to ensure that students still have meaningful breaks in their day—time to move, relax, and connect with friends beyond their own classrooms.

To support this, students will eat lunch in their classrooms and then rotate through indoor recess spaces based on their interests. These options will typically include:

  • Library: movies, drawing, and crafting

  • Gymnasium: basketball and movement activities

  • Music Room: board games and puzzles

On Fridays, students will also have the option to enjoy games on their Chromebooks.
To help make indoor recess engaging and successful, we are reaching out to our wonderful school community. We’ve noticed that students don’t always gravitate toward traditional board games, so items such as decks of playing cards, Uno, chess, or checkers are especially popular. We are also gratefully accepting donations of Legos, Knock Hockey boards, chess boards, and small puzzles or brain teasers.

If you prefer not to donate items, you are welcome to send something in with your child to share with a small group of friends during recess. Any support is truly appreciated.
A quick reminder for families: just like in PE, students who choose to play basketball in the gym must wear sneakers. If your child enjoys wearing Uggs or other boots, please have them bring sneakers to change into.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and flexibility as we navigate the winter months together. We also appreciate your patience and care during drop-off, especially with the snow along Livingston and Denman. Please continue to help students cross safely at the crosswalks, and remember that the staff lot is not a designated drop-off or pick-up area. We kindly ask that neighborhood driveways remain clear as well.

Warm regards,
Cari Lopez
